After coming home from the hospital, I had an opportunity to talk to my oldest son while the rest of the family was getting ready to head out somewhere. I asked him if the reason for my hospital stay (life threatening blood clots) had been hard for him to deal with. He said, “Not really.”
“Not really?!” I replied with a note of “You didn’t care your old man was about to die?” in my tone.
He replied something to the effect, that of course it was hard me not being around and him not seeing me much. So I redirected my question a little bit. “So you weren’t worried about the outcome is what you are saying?”
“Because God is Sovereign and it just has to be that way.” – I sat stunned, proud, and humbled all in the same moment. Stunned that such wisdom was coming out of my 12 year old’s mouth. There were adults who exercised less faith in my predicament. Proud that my Son has been taught truth, and has been given by The Spirit belief in that truth that serves him well in trying times. Humbled by God’s grace demonstrated to me, that the person expressing such faith and confidence in their God is my son.
