The National Championship game was a fun one to watch. While I was not pulling for either team (a real Georgia fan could never pull for Florida), I was hoping to see the SEC represented well, and what a representation! Florida dominated the slow footed bovines from Ohio State. The Big 10 is such a slow, sluggish, grind it out conference and that was highlighted last night. Big 10 football is like watching a cattle drive. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Ohio State is good. Michigan is good. But all this baloney about them being the top two teams in the country was just nonsense. The top teams in the SEC with USC and Texas, are a safe bet against the Big 10 any day of the week. That’s a historical fact for the Buckeyes who are 0-8 vs. the SEC in bowl games.
Why hadn’t Florida looked as good all season as they did last night? Because they play teams in the SEC and ACC (Fla. St) that know what to expect year in and year out from Fla. They know how to compete with Florida as far as X’s and O’s, and they have the speed and skill players to do so. Slow footed teams riding the adulating waves of the Northern sports writers just aren’t prepared for it. Ohio St, Michigan, even Notre Dame need to beef up their schedules and play more than 2 or 3 meaningful games in a year. Teams like Georgia and Florida play 6-8 meaningful games, all out slugfests in a single season. If they don’t they will eventually become as irrelevant as Nebraska has become.
Go Dawgs in 2007!
