Missing the Point
Posted in Uncategorized on September 27, 2006 | 1 Comment »
We put our children back into private school this year after 1 1/2 years of
home-schooling them. Despite our feelings of inadequacy during that time,
we must have done something right as they have all adjusted well and are
beginning to flourish.
However this was not without a traumatic first couple of weeks. During
that time, we saw several "F’s" [...]
What We Read

We recently have had to deal with an issue about some required reading our 11 year old was tackling in school. It spawned a alot of good conversation and thought for a number of people. When I read this post by Bob Kauflin, I thought I’d post it here for your benefit, and for the [...]
Thabiti’s Questions
Posted in Uncategorized on September 21, 2006 | 2 Comments »
Thabiti Anyabwile over at Pure Church is asking questions about the franchising of preachers, a practice that I have been pondering as well. It’s a practice that has been in existence for awhile, but is now becoming a "trend". His questions are worth considering. I’m not entirely what I believe about this yet.
A Bold Witness

Saw this yesterday morning on The Today Show as I was pulling up my socks, getting dressed for the day.
It’s not often you see a "Christian’s Christian" get on TV and give a bold witness of Christ and the Gospel without some degree of hemming and hawing and soft-peddling. Here is Stephen Baldwin, brother of [...]
Anxiously Awaiting

Crossway will be releasing a new book by John Piper later in the month entitled, What Jesus Demands of the World. I’m looking forward to it as it will address that God does make demands of us, and our existence in Christ is more than just a grand indicative. We do have a responsibility before [...]

Preaching To Felt Needs – Al Mohler
“ . . . preachers who believe they can move the attention of
individuals from their "felt" needs to their need for the Gospel will
find, inevitably, that the distance between the individual and the Gospel has
not been reduced by attention to lesser needs.”

Lamenting the Lack of Lyrical Richness
Posted in Uncategorized on September 13, 2006 | Leave a Comment »
I continue to be very dissatisfied with the musical styles and the lyrical quality of pretty much everything on Christian radio these days. The music is all generic teen-pop and the lyrics are no better with most songs fitting the "love songs to Jesus" mold.
From time to time, I’ll buy a CD or download [...]

This blog has been spotted by Phil Johnson of TeamPyro.
Phil is a pastor at Grace Community Church in CA and the Executive
Director of Grace to You, John MacArthur’s radio program. His blog is
worth daily/weekly perusal. This is what is so cool about blogging and the internet.
I send you guys (regular readers of this little [...]
On Being Presbyterian: Chapter 8
Posted in Uncategorized on September 8, 2006 | Leave a Comment »
by Patrick Miller
This chapter ("Decently and in Order": Presbyterian Church Government) is pretty much a straightforward definition of
terms as it relates to Presbyterian polity. One could say this chapter was presented “decently and in order.”
This subject is a really big one for people coming out of
congregational churches to grasp and understand. However, once they do, [...]
